Dec 12th: Beyond Books: How Libraries of the Digital Age Can Foster Innovation and Entrepreneurship

RSVP: http://bit.ly/TSMDec16

We are pleased to welcome Tara Radniecki and Chrissy Klenke to present: “Beyond Books: How Libraries of the Digital Age Can Foster Innovation and Entrepreneurship”

Libraries have always been a place where anyone with the desire to learn could access knowledge in their community. Historically quiet study spaces providing access to books and journals, cutting edge libraries are now a more vibrant hub of learning, collaboration, and innovation where 3D printers and laser cutters can be found alongside books.

Tara Radniecki, Engineering Librarian, and Chrissy Klenke, Geosciences Librarian, at the DeLaMare Science & Engineering Library at the University of Nevada, Reno, work with students, faculty, and members of the greater northern Nevada community to find information, prototype innovations, develop new literacies, and support teaching and learning on campus.

Radniecki and Klenke will discuss how the DeLaMare Library has recently transformed into a space that truly fosters learning, innovation, and entrepreneurship by  providing not only on-site and lending maker equipment, but also expert consultations on 3D modeling, design, intellectual property and more.

Nov 14th: Robotics Teams: More Than Just Robots

RSVP: http://bit.ly/TSM-Nov

We are pleased to welcome Kerry Thompson to present: “Robotics Teams: More Than Just Robots”

Many communities both have students looking for non-sports after-school activities and are in need of a skilled labor force. Robotics teams can solve these problems, while teaching young adults essential life skills, including engineering design, business plan creation, marketing, public speaking and more.

Kerry Thompson, Lead Mentor and Coach for a FIRST Robotics Competition Team, has an M.S. in Physics, has been teaching science, math and engineering for 25 years, and has been running robotics teams for 9 years.

She will talk to us about the Northern Nevada-based FYRE 5480 team she coaches and how they overcame funding challenges to travel and compete while keeping participation free for all students.
