We are pleased to welcome Dr. Graham M. Kent  to present: “Wildfire and Artificial Intelligence: How a Middle School Project Turned into Tahoe’s Sophisticated Wildfire Early Detection System.”

As the fire season grows longer every year, and the environmental and economic impact of firestorms such as the Rim and King Fires grows, the need for early wildfire detection and better fire intelligence in Tahoe has become even more urgent.

Come learn how the use of microwave communications technology, HD/4k video cameras, and artificial intelligence are increasingly being used in Tahoe to discover wildfire smoke and to provide actionable intelligence to firefighters and emergency management personnel.
Dr. Graham M. Kent, Director of the Nevada Seismological Laboratory and Professor in Seismology at the University of Nevada, Reno, will explain how the AlertTAHOE fire camera system grew from a partnership between middle school students from near Auburn, CA and the Nevada Seismological Laboratory, into the effective detection and monitoring system it is today.

You can learn more about AlertTAHOE here: alerttahoe.seismo.unr.edu

The meeting will be on Monday, June 13th, 6-8 pm at Pizza on the Hill, in Tahoe Donner at 11509 Northwoods Blvd., Truckee. A $5 fee includes pizza and salad. Before and after the presentation, there will be time for networking with other technology professionals who live and work in the Tahoe-Truckee region.

The event will also be livestreamed and available online as it happens on YouTube: bit.ly/YouTubeTSM
